Helping vulnerable people to overcome mental health struggles, through Equine Assisted Therapy with retired racehorses.
To help homeless retired racehorses and children/youth suffering with mental health.
Atlassian provides all employees with five days of volunteering every year. I decided to use those to help a charity with its website. I worked together with two engineers to help redesign and build a new website.
"We aren’t able to accept online donations"
We ran a workshop to capture who they are, why this mission is important and what problems they face.
You need a website that communicates what your charity does (to help you get donations)
We begin by organising the tasks into Trello to help plan what work we needed to do.
I ran another branding workshop to answer these main questions: Who are we? What is our tone? What’s our DNA? What motivates us?
I analysed the current website and put together a visual sitemap to help the charity understand existing usability, visual and content problems.
Hey there, this is the default text for a new paragraph. Feel free to edit this paragraph by clicking on the yellow edit icon. After you are done just click on the yellow checkmark button on the top right. Have Fun!
I tested out several font faces based on the branding workshop outputs. Poppins stood out the most – warm that charities can lean into but also professional and workhorse font.
I took their blue and increased the warm, along with the yellow. I also added a green to symbolise the natural elements of the charity: being connected to animals, along with some base colours related to the primary colour.
Numbers that relate to each other creates an invisible foundation for size and space.
I spent some time looking at what the overall structure would look like, and what templates and components they would need based on the content analysis.
I went with clean lines, strong imagery and copy. Focus on powerful imagery to help set up emotion at the beginning.
I really enjoyed working on this project as it allowed me to work with a charity that is doing so many good things. And it felt good to do something for nothing. I also got to know the charity and the people, and two amazing engineers who did a great job building the site.
